FREMONT, Calif. -- Santur Corporation, the leading manufacturer of high performance parallel array devices for the global telecommunications industry, today announced general availability of 50mW (17dBm) C-band and L-band DFB-based widely tunable lasers. Such characteristics are desirable in a variety of architectures where very high power and stable DFB characteristics are required.

These applications include hybrid fiber-coax (HFC), cable TV, metro, passive optical network (PON), and backbone 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s systems that are being developed with advanced modulation coding techniques or coherent detection. The very high power allows larger splitting losses in passive optical networks, and better signal to noise ratio in high speed links. Previously such power levels were only commercially available in fixed wavelengths devices.

The Santur laser includes a wavelength locker for operation at 100GHz to 25GHz ITU spacing, and is available either as an easy-to-use butterfly or a fully contained pre-calibrated module. This product offering is a direct result of Santur’s strong focus on devices using unique DFB array architectures. These lasers are fully qualified and extensively tested for telecom requirements with nearly 200,000 devices operating in the field carrying live traffic.

Vibha Goel, Director of Marketing at Santur stated, “Our expertise in advanced DFB manufacturing techniques and our long experience with tunable lasers allows us to tailor the performance of the DFBs for various applications. We are proud to make 50mW widely tunable devices commercially available with no compromises on performance or power consumption.”
