FREMONT, Calif. -- Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNX - News), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today introduced a high performance 980nm single-mode pump laser diode product family.

The PowerIntense(TM) family of products has industry-leading output powers of 2.5 watts and 1.4 watts at 25 degrees C and 75 degrees C, respectively. These lasers are key components in pump modules used in optical amplifiers for metro, long-haul and submarine communication networks.

"The leading-edge performance of the PowerIntense laser chips further reinforces our industry leadership position in metro and long-haul amplification modules and subsystems by allowing us to develop solutions that are smaller and require less power at a lower cost," said Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa, chief technology officer of Avanex.

"In addition, these new lasers exceed the reliability and performance requirements of the submarine market, allowing us the opportunity to have substantial participation in the coming market for undersea optical repeaters," said Barbarossa.

FREMONT, Calif. -- Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNX - News), a pioneer of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next- generation optical networks, today introduced its new 94SGP PowerDeep(TM) submarine pump module. This new product has an operating power of 400mW, the highest power pump available for submarine applications, and will be available for deployment in highly reliable repeaters throughout next-generation submerged fiber networks.

The new 94SGP pump module integrates the high performance PowerIntense(TM) 980nm laser chip with proven packaging technology. This combination of high optical power and reliability enables submarine system integrators to design new architectures with an unsurpassed level of dependable power at a lower cost.

"The introduction of our new PowerDeep submarine pump demonstrates Avanex's commitment to providing leading-edge solutions to the submarine market," said Yves LeMaitre, vice president and general manager, optical components. "Over the past several years, we continued our investment in submarine product development and are excited about the renewed opportunities we see in this market."
