SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Dowslake Microsystems, provider of smart network building blocks from Ethernet to WDM, today announced an innovative optical networking platform – CATS Converged Access & Transport System.

Networks are transitioning from traditional Sonet or SDH based network topology to IP. Operators often struggle to interface a large variety of user equipment usually based on TDM or Ethernet, while linking them to the main network.

CATS Converged Access & Transport System provides various user interfaces, for TDM or WDM, to metro networks regardless of the protocols or data rates.

Using 3U 19” rack chassis as the basic system, CATS accepts all TDM, Ethernet and WDM plug-in cards within Dowslake product portfolio, such as Carrier Ethernet demarcation devices, circuit emulation products, CWDM or DWDM line cards, and multiplexers. Each card can go into a small CPE (customer premises equipment) chassis as an option to be stand-alone at customers’ sites.

Managing a variety of functions and services has always been a challenge. CATS offers a comprehensive set of network management tools, including local craft interface, SNMP agent, and GUI (graphic user interface). In-band or out-of-band management options are available. The network management allows operators to configure services, selling bandwidths, monitor the utilization and supervise operations.
