SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Calient Networks, a leading supplier of intelligent fiber management systems, announced that Daniel L. Scharre has been appointed CEO, effective August 13, 2007. Scharre has had a distinguished career in the development and deployment of broadband telecommunications equipment and systems and joins Calient following an extensive search.

Scharre in his 20 years of telecommunications experience has held CEO positions at Loea Corporation, Larscom, and Adaptive Broadband, and prior to that, senior executive positions at Comstream, Loral and others. Scharre holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, an MBA from Santa Clara University, and previously served on the faculty at Stanford University. “This wealth of experience, education and leadership make Dan the ideal candidate to lead Calient to its next level of success,” said George Schmitt, Calient Board Member and Managing Director at TeleSoft Partners.

“Calient, with it’s recently introduced DiamondWave® FiberConnect, is poised for significant growth as intelligent fiber optic cross-connect systems increasingly revolutionize the way service providers manage their networks and respond to the demands for video services and the ‘social networking’ phenomenon,” said Scharre. “Calient is capturing customer interest with its solid technology and I am excited to be joining this industry leader,” he continued.
