MINNEAPOLIS -- Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) market leader Optical Solutions Inc. and Iowa-based Mahaska Communication Group(MCG) have entered into an agreement to provide direct fiber connections to the community of Oskaloosa, a college town in Southeast Iowa.

MCG is using Optical Solutions’ FiberPath platform to build a “Fiber to the World” network that will link Oskaloosa and surrounding area businesses, residents to a state-of-the-art broadband communications network. MCG’s fiber-optic services will include local and long distance telephone, high-speed Internet and digital television, with additional services planned for the future.

“With FiberPath we can offer a more comprehensive set of services than is currently available in the community,” said MCG General Manager Frank Hansen. “Moreover, we’ll package them at less expensive rates, and present them on one bill for the convenience of our customers.”

A competitive service provider with local roots, MCG has grown its business over the last four years through the provision of wireless and fiber optic services to many of Oskaloosa’s public and government offices, as well as the city’s venerable William Penn University and Vennard College.

“MCG has a solid track record with fiber, and FiberPath offers a seamless progression for expanding their customer base,” said Mike Dagenais, president and chief executive officer of Optical Solutions. “No better business case exists for providing multiple communications services at competitive prices over one network.”
