NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- NTELOS, an integrated communications provider that operates in the mid-Atlantic region, selected three Tellabs systems to upgrade its fiber optic network. The Tellabs(R) 5500 NGX transport switch, Tellabs(R) 7120 NGX advanced transport node and Tellabs(R) 5320/L digital cross-connect will perform high-density bandwidth management and groom and fill operations for NTELOS. Tellabs' installation and training services will help NTELOS quickly deploy Tellabs' equipment and ensure high-quality operation. Together, Tellabs' products and services will enable NTELOS to reduce operating costs and create a more efficient backbone network.

"We have been using Tellabs' equipment to manage our wireless traffic for four years, and we've been very impressed with Tellabs' customer service and response times," said Diego Anderson, director of network facilities engineering for NTELOS. "When it was time for us to look for next-generation transport gear, Tellabs was one of our top choices. After evaluating two other vendors, we selected Tellabs because they offer the most innovative transport equipment on the market today, have outstanding services, and will best help us meet our customers' needs."

"Tellabs' transport systems will help NTELOS create new network efficiencies and further enhance their value-added services offerings," said Steve McCarthy, senior executive vice president of global customer sales and service for Tellabs. "We are honored that NTELOS continues to select Tellabs to enhance its extensive fiber-optic network with the latest technology and will use our services for a seamless deployment."
