SAN JOSE, CA -- NeoPhotonics Corporation, the industry's leading developer of advanced silica integrated optical circuits, modules and subsystems, today announced several changes to its executive roster, including the addition of Vincent Retort as vice president of customer programs and product engineering; the promotion of Ikram Lakhani to vice president of finance and administration, aligning responsibilities of engineering and product development under vice president Ping Xie, and the departure of Ron Mosso to NanoGram Corporation.

Vincent Retort, a twenty-year veteran of product engineering, magnetic performance test engineering, and wafer process development and integration, has been named to the new position of vice president of customer programs & product engineering. Mr. Retort comes to NeoPhotonics from Seagate Technologies, a maker of high density data storage products for Enterprise, PC and Consumer Electronics applications, where he was held the senior director, recording performance engineering position. Previously, he was vice president of product engineering with thin-film magnetic recording head manufacturer, Read-Rite Corporation, as well as holding key positions at Conner Peripherals and Memorex. In addition, Mr. Retort was previous vice president of product engineering at Lightwave Microsystems, prior to that company's being acquired by NeoPhotonics early in 2003.

"We are extremely pleased to have Vince Retort on board. He has a solid track record in new product development with disciplined engineering methods and attention to cost and performance. He also clearly understands the importance of meeting the needs of the customers and their focus on speed to market-also key objectives for our company," explained Tim Jenks, CEO. "His experience, discipline and proven execution abilities are ideally suited to the opportunities and customer needs NeoPhotonics is addressing."

Dr. Ping Xie, a prior winner of the Photonic Spectra Circle of Excellence award for product development, has assumed the new position of vice president of engineering and product development. Dr. Xie directed the development of the recently-introduced athermal AWG product line (March, 2004) as well as the company's suite of low insertion loss power splitters (March, 2003). Dr. Xie, who came to NeoPhotonics after working at Finisar, New Focus Corporation and JDS Uniphase, continues to advance the capabilities of NeoPhotonics' active waveguide technology. He has been with the company since 2002 and has more than thirty awarded and pending patents and over twenty publications to his credit.

NeoPhotonics further announced the promotion of Ikram Lakhani to the position of vice president finance and administration. Mr. Lakhani is an experienced finance professional, having more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and computer industries and in countries including the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. He has served with companies including Nortel, where he was Director of Finance and Division Controller, Alltel and Compaq. Mr. Lakhani's professional certifications include his being a Fellow with the Association of Certified Accountants in the UK. Mr. Lakhani has been serving as corporate controller since 2000.

"NeoPhotonics will miss the inspiring leadership of Ron Mosso in operations, " noted Jenks. "Ron managed the successful integration of NeoPhotonics' and Lightwave Microsystems' operations and has been key to our achieving a highly efficient and effective operations organization." "The rest of our capable operations staff, under the direction of senior vice president Paul Schroeter, will continue focusing on excellence and the enduring principles of our customer-focused, ISO9001 organization."
