MRV Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRVC) today announced that it has formed a new start-up company, Optical Crossing, Inc., a developer of all optical switch components.

Optical Crossing plans to develop a novel, extremely low loss, photonic switch. Most optical switch components announced to-date, attenuate the signal, which causes a certain amount of optical power losses. The result is a deterioration of the signal-to-noise ratio of the transmitted data and a limitation of the transmission range in all-optical networks.
