NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Mindspeed Technologiesä, the Internet infrastructure business of Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), today announced the networking industry’s fastest and most versatile quad serializer/deserializer (SerDes) transceiver with the widest range of bandwidth, spanning from 1 Gbps up to 3.1875 Gbps. SerDes transceivers perform the critical function of providing very high speed data communications between internal networking system components – such as line cards and switch fabric card, for example – and between systems. The full range of bandwidth of the new M27207 Quad SkyRail transceiver allows it to support all of the line-interface standards used in virtually every networking device in development today. In addition, the M27207 is the first quad transceiver to be compliant with current Fibre Channel specifications and to support early implementations of 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel – making it an ideal solution for storage area network (SAN) applications, which represents a new market opportunity for Mindspeed. “The new Quad SkyRail transceiver raises the bar for SerDes transceiver functionality, delivering the full range of speed and standard flexibility system designers require for next-generation equipment,” said Elie Massabki, director of marketing with Mindspeed’s Broadband Internetworking Systems business unit. “The M27207 represents a significant market opportunity in the local-, wide-, and storage-area network equipment space, where this device can be designed into virtually every system now in development for line interfaces and serial backplane interconnects. In addition, its support of the evolving 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel specification allows Mindspeed to provide chassis-to-chassis connections for the SAN, which promises to be a significant market opportunity for us.”Mindspeed Technologies
