BELLEVUE, Wash. -- MidStream Technologies,™ a leading developer of broadcast quality Video on Demand (VoD) and Network Digital Video Recording (nDVR) server and storage solutions announces the general availability of the V2 Video Server. MidStream sets the industry standard in breadth and depth of VOD solutions with flexible media cluster configurations with the V1, V10, and now the V2 Video Server.

The V2 substantially reduces the cost of video streaming by integrating cost effective, commercially available PC platforms and MidStream’s X2 Streaming board. The X2 is a PCI-X board running MidStream’s embedded streaming server technology providing high performance and next generation media delivery features. System operators may choose a commercially available PC platform with MidStream’s X2 streaming engine. The V2 Video Server provides operators with the reliability of hardware, the flexibility of software, and the cost reduction effects of Moore’s Law.

The V2 features and performance include:

  • 1,000 simultaneous MPEG-2 streams (3.75Mbps) from a 2 RU PC platform, delivered over gigabit Ethernet

  • Deployment ready for Windows® Media 9 and MPEG-4 stream delivery

  • Deliver content encoded at any bit rate

  • Edge cache or centralized configurations

  • Sophisticated, scalable tiered storage solutions

  • Separate management and content ingest Ethernet ports

  • Compatibility with all other MidStream video servers and clusters

“The V2 is a product that meets the cost and performance requirements of any size system in any deployment architecture,” said Bailey Shewchuk, chief operating officer at MidStream Technologies. “We took the superior performance of the MVS-2000 and V10 streaming engines, designed it into a PCI-X form factor, and integrated it into a cost effective commodity PC platform. The value customers experience from MidStream’s other server platforms is now available on a commodity platform of their choice.”

Midstream will continue to sell and support the MVS-2000, V1, and V10 platforms, along with the X2 Streaming Board.
