BERLIN -- Lumics a manufacturer of pump laser modules and laser chips introduces an improved version of its pump laser module series LU975M300. The device uses a high accuracy photo monitor function for tight tracking of fiber-coupled power via the monitor diode signal. The target application are Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA's) without front fiber tab for tracking.

The cooled 14-pin butterfly module is designed with an improved internal photo diode design which monitors the optical output. New EDFA designs benefit from this function because this no additional external monitor function in the fiber required.

The tracking error is specified at operating power of up to 300mW with +/- 10% in a temperature range from 0 to 25C respectively from 25 to 70C. The devices use a low profile package design with standard footprint of 30 x 15.2mm and a height of 7.8mm.

The LU975M300 series is available with Corning HI 1060 fiber. Polarization maintaining fiber can be ordered as an option. The devices conform with Telcordia GR-468-CORE. Lumics uses a patent pending breakthrough in laser passivation technology which offers very high optical output power. The current generation of modules ranges offer up to 330mW nominal output power with a fiber bragg grating (FBG) for wavelength stabilization.
