JDS Uniphase announces multi-purpose, cost-effective 10-Gbit/s transponder module for Sonet, Ethernet or FEC metro applications

OTTAWA and SAN JOSE, Calif. -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSE: JDU) today expanded their offering of transmission modules with a new 10 Gb/s Long Reach Multi-Rate Transponder for fiberoptic communication. The new transponder is MSA-compliant and can be used in a variety of Metro applications for links of up to 100 km."We are seeing demand for our high performance transmission modules from system vendors who are narrowing their supply base and recognize JDS Uniphase as a long-term leader," said Don Bossi, President of JDS Uniphase's Transmission Group. "We believe that reducing cost while providing a single modular solution is a strong value proposition for our customers and allows them to focus on their core competencies in developing systems."The OTPDR5101-LR (long reach) transponder is qualified for operation over an extended temperature range (0 ºC to 70 ºC), offering potential cost savings by reducing the need for temperature control equipment.JDS Uniphase's new product offers advanced capabilities, such as 50 GHz DWDM laser spacing, an integrated wavelocker and options for dispersioncompensation. In addition, the user can select from multiple data rates tomeet the needs of their SONET, Ethernet, 10.66 or 10.71 Gb/s FEC data rate applications.JDS Uniphase Corp.
