ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, unveiled a ground-breaking All-Optical Switching Network architecture supporting any network topology, at the OFC/NFOEC 2013 event in Anaheim, Calif. All-optical transmission and switching were demonstrated at the event using prototypes based on this new architecture and technology. All-Optical Switching Network technology offers cost-effective and energy-efficient transport based on all-optical switching, by eliminating the need for Optical-Electrical-Optical (OEO) conversion or electrical switching. Huawei solves the industry-wide challenge of switching multi-dimensional and multi-wavelength optical bursts through use of innovative Optical Time Slot Interchange (OTSI) technology. This enables any-topology, all-optical contention-less networking. Additionally, Huawei demonstrated high-speed, real-time 100 Gbit/s optical burst transceiving for the first time in the industry. Furthermore, the All-Optical Switching Network architecture is compatible with traditional Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) networks. Huawei's continuous exploration in the field of all-optical switching has yielded an Optical Burst Transport Network (OBTN) prototype and a Petabit Photonic Cross-Connect (PPXC) prototype showcased at earlier OFC/NFOEC events. This new All-Optical Switching Network architecture makes further advances in any-topology networking and coherent transmission for optical bursts. Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
