Huawei Responds to Austrian Allegations

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has responded to allegations that it was involved in commercial irregularities related to deals struck with Telekom Austria AG (NYSE: TKA; Vienna: TKA). (See Telekom Austria Probes Huawei Deals and Huawei Linked to Contract Scandal.)

The Chinese vendor issued this statement to Light Reading by email:

We are aware of recent media reports that mention our Austrian subsidiary in connection with a local enterprise that is being investigated by local authorities. We have looked into this matter and confirmed that our operation in Austria strictly adheres to the laws and commercial codes of conduct in Austria. While we have not been contacted by local authorities, we will cooperate fully should they seek our support regarding this matter.

As the world's second largest communications equipment provider, Huawei has been widely recognized and well-received across the world due in part to our advanced technologies. More importantly, Huawei strictly follows corporate regulations, and observes all of the laws and regulations of the countries where we operate. We have a sound corporate governance structure in place throughout our operations and we require our staff to follow strict business conduct guidelines.

Huawei has won customer recognition through continuous innovations based on customer needs. We are very happy that 45 of the global top 50 operators have chosen Huawei as their strategic partner. Today, we provide advanced communications equipment to operators in over 140 countries worldwide and work with our customers to bring the best and most up-to-date communications experience to their customers.

Huawei should invite the Austrian government to investigate it. That line worked on me last time. :)

What a non-story.  Of course there is fire where there is smoke.  However, we look the other way due to political pressure.  The fact is that the world is so intertwined with China, they have the upper hand.  All this banter about indiscretion by Huawei is just a waste of time.  No one trusts themselves, outside of the US, to challenge them.
