Fibernet, the next generation telecommunications provider, has launched TANet/WAVE, a groundbreaking telecommunications service that enables Carriers and Internet Service Providers to deploy complete national network services in record-breaking times. TANet/WAVE provides bespoke and scaleable national networks based upon discrete optical wavelengths to customers who see time to market as a key competitive advantage.

Fibernet has also announced Telia UK as its first TANet/WAVE customer, having agreed a multi million pound contract with the UK subsidiary of the Swedish national telecoms operator. Based upon Fibernet's nationwide TANet fibre-optic backbone and utilising both TANet/WAVE and co-location services, Telia UK will initially deploy its services from six PoPs (points of presence) at major regional business centres across the country. PoPs in Manchester and Bristol will be the first to go live, with the other four to follow over the next six months.

"Fibernet's TANet/WAVE service is playing a central role in Telia UK's expansion plans," said Bo Eklöf, Managing Director, Telia UK. "The first six PoPs are just the foundation for our nationwide roll-out. We will be working closely with Fibernet who will give us the connectivity to deliver direct-connect converged services to the whole of the UK business community."

"TANet/WAVE is literally offering carriers and ISPs access to their own personal slice of our resilient and highly scalable TANet national network," said Charles McGregor, Chief Executive, Fibernet Group. "TANet/WAVE offers customers tailor made solutions enabling rapid entry to the UK telecoms market on a national basis at speeds starting at 2.5Gigabit/second, and as always Fibernet guarantees first class service levels."

TANet/WAVE harnesses state of the art Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technologies in a unique and commercially flexible package that recognises the customer's need to balance revenues with fixed costs. Taking a TANet/WAVE service in conjunction with Fibernet's established co-location services puts customer's transmission, switching and routing equipment directly onto virtual private 2.5Gigabit/second backbone networks, deployable at over 50 customer selectable Points of Presence nationwide.

TANet/WAVE will allow Telia to deliver large scale switched voice, data and IP services nationally as well as facilitating interconnection with other regional and national operators which will in turn allow rapid development of opportunities in the carrier wholesale market.
