WatchGuard announces availability of Firebox X Peak

SEATTLE -- WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGRD - News), a leading provider of network security, has announced the general availability of its new high-performance line of integrated security appliances, the Firebox X Peak. The new product line is designed to meet the performance, functionality, and manageability requirements of today's high volume, complex and demanding networks. The Firebox X Peak line includes three models, the X5000, X6000 and X8000, and offers businesses Gigabit connection speeds, high port density and advanced networking features for a fraction of the cost of comparable products. Features of the new appliance include:

  • Up to Gigabit throughput capacity

  • Port independence and port density (10 ports, three of which are Gigabit-capable) provide the performance and flexibility required to segment and strongly secure high-demand networks

  • Up to four external interfaces, with WAN load-sharing, failover and high availability and an integrated firewall/VPN (up to 20,000 VPN tunnels) to support large numbers of mobile users or branch offices

  • Full model upgradeability and a range of add-ons via software license keys, such as the WatchGuard Weblocker content filtering service, that enable the appliance to grow in accordance with the increasing demands of the network



Additionally, each Firebox X Peak appliance comes standard with the recently announced Fireware Pro advanced network and security operating system (also available for purchase by Firebox X Core customers). Fireware Pro includes WatchGuard's enhanced Intelligent Layered Security (ILS) and also includes advanced networking features, giving customers the performance, reliability, redundancy and port density that demanding high-speed networks require. Firebox X Peak customers (and Firebox X Core customers running Fireware Pro) also have the opportunity to add the recently announced Gateway AntiVirus and Intrusion Prevention Service, a subscription-based service that blocks suspicious network traffic and malicious code in real time.
