BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the introduction of its Net-Net 4500, a new addition to the Net-Net 4000 series that increases performance and capacity by 100% or more in session border controller (SBC), multiservice security gateway (MSG) and session routing proxy (SRP) product configurations. Positioned between the Net-Net 4250 and Net-Net 9200 in terms of price, performance and capacity, the Net-Net 4500 satisfies service provider, large enterprise and contact center requirements at both network access and interconnect border points.

As the number of subscribers utilizing IP-based interactive communications continues to grow on a worldwide basis, service providers are making investments in network expansion. Similarly, enterprises who have already embraced voice over IP (VoIP) are expanding session capacity in their networks in order to reap the business benefits offered by presence-enabled unified communications (UC). Emerging wireless services leveraging femtocell or Wi-Fi access points to enable fixed-mobile substitution (FMS) and fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) will require security gateway platforms with high-IPsec tunnel capacity. Industry experts have similar perspectives on these trends: in a recent survey conducted by Infonetics Research1, session capacity and performance were identified by service providers as the top two SBC requirements. Infonetics cited “unabated VoIP subscriber growth” as the driving factor behind this survey’s results.

“Acme Packet constantly strives to anticipate the ever-changing demands of new services and applications, so our customers can evolve their networks to meet those demands,” said Patrick MeLampy, CTO of Acme Packet. “The positive customer feedback we’ve received from beta and early customer deployments of the Net-Net 4500 assures us that our vision is aligned with that of our customers.”
