MUNICH -- Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) has been awarded a contract by the Japanese network operator Right Net Corporation in Utsunomiya, to supply broadband access technology. Right Net is a new, up-and-coming operator in Japan, who has held an operator's license since May 2000. Thanks to the installation of the DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) XpressLink from Siemens, Right Net can offer its customers broadband network access and value-added internet services such as video- on-demand. The contract means that ICN now has a foot in the door in DSL broadband access technology in Japan.

During the first stage of the broadband network, which should be completed at the end of this year, XpressLink will be set up in northern outskirts of Tokyo. From the beginning of next year a second build phase is planned with further product deliveries. Siemens Information and Communication Networks will be responsible for consulting, supply, installation and maintenance of the broadband access systems.
