SAN DIEGO -- OMM, Inc., a leading supplier of photonic switching subsystems based on MEMS technology, has opened two new sales offices. The San Diego-headquartered company has rolled out teams in Boston, MA and Munich, Germany. Both locations will act as a local point of contact for customers and will drive business development in their respective areas.

OMM's European push will be spearheaded by Bernd Runge, sales and marketing director, Europe. Runge joins OMM from Lucent Technologies' Microeletronics Group, where he was Asia Pacific marketing director, based out of Japan. Runge will strengthen OMM's offering to meet growth in the European photonic switching market. OMM currently works with customers such as Siemens and Alcatel. Michael Demeo, east coast sales director, will head up East Coast operations. Demeo, who has experience with Intel and IBM, joined OMM in September 2000. He will take charge of sales and marketing activities as well as recruitment of local sales and technical resources.

"Building a presence on the East Coast and Europe represents the natural next step in our business development plan," said Chris Lepiane, VP of sales at OMM, Inc. "OMM is the only supplier in the MEMS-based photonic switch space that is shipping commercial products and we find demand in both the US and Europe. These new offices will assist in servicing our customer base."
