PARIS -- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA) and MASERGY, a privately held global provider of converged voice, video and data services, today announced that MASERGY has expanded its network and can now provide enterprise customers around the world with Ethernet services to all their company locations. This allows businesses to maintain the convenience and simplicity of Ethernet across their wide area network (WAN).

MASERGY is able to offer this Ethernet WAN service due to its recent network expansion based on Alcatel’s 7750 Service Router. Responding to growing market demand for Ethernet-based WAN services like Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), this roll out further establishes the service provider as an industry pioneer.

"Our industry research has revealed a pent-up corporate demand for Ethernet services over the past few years largely ignored by carriers," said Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research, Inc. "Using Alcatel's Service Router to deliver new services, MASERGY is clearly addressing this demand and pushing the industry standard by offering Ethernet WANs with five levels of QoS tailored to an enterprise's needs."

Jeppesen, a subsidiary of Boeing, is using MASERGY’s international VPLS service to manage mission critical applications such as corporate communications between the U.S and European offices while supporting the management of all flight plans across North America. “We selected VPLS for our international wide area network because it encompasses and enhances the best features of all the technologies,” said Mike Schulte, Network Team Leader, Jeppesen.“ Since moving to VPLS, we have at least doubled the network capacity at all nine of our locations – and 10-fold at some of those sites – while reducing our overall WAN costs by 36 percent. We are utilizing four classes of service in our provider’s network to differentiate voice, video and data traffic.”
