"At CeBIT we are announcing agreements with leading service providers that demonstrate that Lucent is helping them do just that. "But beyond that market, there are smaller providers and businesses in Europe who would benefit from the advanced communications technology Lucent offers. By enhancing our partner program with the accreditation of these companies we will be able to effectively address that market as well."The company also used the show to announce that its research and development arm, Bell Labs, last week received its 30,000th patent. It was awarded U.S. Patent No. 6,529,499 for mechanisms for guaranteeing Quality of Service (QoS) in Internet Protocol (IP) networks, which should help make packet-based networks as reliable as today's telephone networks.Contracts announced at CeBIT include:

In a separate release:Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and Deutsche Telekom AG (DAX: DTEGn.F; NYSE: DT) today unveiled a new Ethernet-over-optical service, which will enable Deutsche Telekom's corporate customers to connect their local area networks (LANs) at sites throughout Germany directly via Ethernet. In addition to supplying the fundamental network technology, Lucent will also be supporting Deutsche Telekom in developing and launching the service and running joint marketing initiatives. The 'Leased Link DDV-M Ethernet100' service will connect the LANs of various locations through Deutsche Telekom's optical backbone to form a logical network - with a scalable transmission rate of up to 100 Mbit/s (Fast Ethernet). With corporate customers being able to remove costly, high-maintenance wide area network (WAN) routers, the 'Leased Link' service will open up a new dimension in direct data connection: customers will receive full-coverage fast Ethernet services with backup functionality combined with flexible bandwidth. "The 'Leased Link DDV-M Ethernet100' service is an innovative extension of our successful 'DDV - Datendirektverbindungen' leased line portfolio", said Achim Berg, member of the T-COM Board of Management responsible for marketing and sales. "The new service places the most important aspects of LAN coupling to the fore: safety, reliability, ease of use and fast, flexible bandwidth." The offer, which will be commercially available from summer 2003, is oriented around the needs of corporate customers. It can be used to provide improved connectivity between computer centres and thus accelerate backups and help prevent crisis situations. In the automotive industry, the faster transmission of CAD/CAM data can enable more rapid product development on a global scale. Print and graphics agencies save time and money if extensive data and image files are sent to their destination at high speed. In a separate release:Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that, following the successful completion of technical acceptance last week, it will integrate its Navis® iOperations OneVision® multi-vendor network management software into the Deutsche Telekom optical network during CeBIT. The software, which is part of the Lucent Navis® iOperations OSS portfolio, enables Germany's largest service provider, for the first time, to manage its multi-vendor optical network with one software package. Navis® iOperations® OneVision® is unique in that it supports both Lucent and Alcatel optical systems, and has been designed to manage network elements from any manufacturer, making it the most comprehensive integrated network management solution in production. "Multi-vendor networks have been a reality for a long time, but fully-integrated multi-vendor management, on the other hand, is still far from being a matter of course", says Holger Schmidt, director of Deutsche Telekom Sales at Lucent Technologies. "Deutsche Telekom, together with Lucent, has set the standard with this project." The aim of the project was to manage Deutsche Telekom´s very extensive and complex transport network with just one network management system, and, with OneVision® release 4.1, this has been achieved. The system, which makes all important network information visible online, is also helping Deutsche Telekom to significantly reduce network operation costs. The new software upgrade, Navis® iOperations OneVision® 4.1, enables Deutsche Telekom to perform critical business operations such as fault management, through the Navis® Network Fault Manager, performance management and provisioning, via Navis® Optical Management Solution from a central location.Lucent Technologies Inc.
