BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Comsat International, a regional provider of telecommunications services throughout Latin America, has selected Brasil Telecom GlobeNet, who owns and operates the lowest latency submarine fiber-optic cable system, to provide Carrier Ethernet services between their network Points of Presence (PoPs) in Caracas, Venezuela, and Miami, Florida. The GlobeNet Ethernet circuit provides a scalable and cost-effective solution which allows Comsat to deliver next-generation services to its customer base.

"Working with an international carrier’s carrier like Brasil Telecom GlobeNet allows us to redundantly interconnect our networks in two key regions, the U.S. and South America," states Brian Brooks, Vice President of Commercial Operations of Comsat International. "We require a high-bandwidth, low-latency network with both diversity and ease of use; GlobeNet gives us all these features, as well as excellent customer service."

Comsat entered into a long-term agreement for international capacity service with GlobeNet to interconnect their U.S. PoPs with their PoPs in Brazil and Venezuela. GlobeNet provided legacy SDH services to Brazil. For Venezuela, Comsat initially considered SDH services as well, but after further analysis from GlobeNet’s Network Engineering organization, it became clear that Comsat’s most flexible and cost-effective solution was to deploy Carrier Ethernet e-Line services instead. Not only would Comsat save on the cost of upgrading their existing equipment, but due to GlobeNet’s Carrier Ethernet offering, Comsat’s network benefits from the flexibility of this next generation technology to easily and quickly grow as their clients’ need for bandwidth grows.

"Carrier Ethernet connectivity is a seamless way for Comsat to interconnect their IP services and ultimately deliver high-quality products to their customers for today’s requirements and tomorrow’s growth," states Erick W. Contag, Director of U.S. and International Marketing & Sales for GlobeNet. "Comsat provides service to more than 2000 enterprise, government and carrier clients; we look forward to helping Comsat provide essential, modern network services to their client base."
