BOULDER, Colo. -- dBm Optics, Inc. introduced its Model 2004/3112 980 nm Component Spectrum Analyzer(tm) system. This system characterizes devices from 940-1000 nm. Typical components in this wavelength range include fiber bragg gratings, splitters, polarization beam combiners, and band separators. The dBm Optics Model 2004, coupled with the Model 3112, tests multiple fiber types--including PM aligned components. Until this release, there were no component spectrum analyzers available in this wavelength range and none available that could test multiple fiber types.

The wavelength range to be tested can often be optimized for the specific device under test within the dBm Optics 2004/3112 system. With tunable laser sources available at 940-980 nm and 960-1000 nm--and with sources available ranging from 1260-1650 nm--a complete, customized test system can be created.

By using its proprietary Power Reference feature, the 2004 Component Spectrum Analyzer automatically corrects for laser source output variation. Traditionally, referencing has been problematic at these wavelengths. The 2004 has overcome these issues to provide very stable and repeatable Insertion Loss results. In addition, by using its unique automatic gas cell correction, laser source wavelength errors are virtually eliminated--providing wavelength accuracy of 5 pm.

The dBm Optics 2004 measures at a fast 100,000 readings per second. This allows both fast power-vs-wavelength characterization and dynamic characterization for fast-responding components.

The instrument can be operated from the front panel or remotely from GPIB, RS-232, or over an ethernet network. Software tools make remote operation fast and simple--including LabView(tm) drivers and separate network-based tools.
