PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTN - News), a leading provider of intelligent broadband access solutions, today announced that it has signed a strategic distribution agreement with NTT-ME, a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone and a leading provider of IT business solutions and network integration services. Under the terms of the agreement, NTT-ME will distribute the VantEdge 3300 Access BRAS under its NTT-ME Global WAVE product portfolio to facilities-based broadband carriers throughout Japan.

"There is enormous demand for both Internet and advanced broadband services in Japan," said Shuji Arima, Senior Vice President and Senior Executive Manager in NTT-ME's International Multimedia System Business Unit. "We needed a highly cost-effective platform that would help our broadband carrier customers both enable and scale these services, one which would seamlessly fit into today's ATM networks and facilitate migration to emerging Ethernet-based networks. After carefully evaluating many platforms, we concluded that the VantEdge 3300 best meets the requirements of the Japanese market."

According to Point Topic, Japan is the second leading country in the world after China in the number of DSL lines deployed, with 12.1 million at the end of Q2 2004. This figure represents a sequential growth rate of nearly 8% over the prior quarter.

"Japan is a strategic broadband market and one of the global leaders in innovating new broadband services," said Rick Gilbert, Chairman and CEO of Copper Mountain Networks. "Throughout the world, broadband networks are undergoing a fundamental evolution to meet the twin challenges of rapid subscriber growth and the need to offer multiple, advanced services -- challenges that the VantEdge was purpose-built to address. We are delighted that NTT-ME, a premier network integration company in Japan, has selected the VantEdge for inclusion in its comprehensive portfolio."
