LONDON -- CIRPACK, a developer of next generation voice switches for operators’ infrastructures, today announced availability of software enhancements for its Class-5 telephony platform enabling wireline telecom operators to deploy TISPAN-compliant architectures. This allows quick migration of legacy PSTN to global voice over IP networks capable of massive cost reductions and easy introduction of new voice services such as fixed-mobile convergence according to 3GPP’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

The TISPAN committee is the ETSI core competence centre for migration of fixed networks from circuit-switched to packet-based networks with an architecture that can serve in both. The goal is to seamlessly connect legacy POTS and ISDN users to a next generation networks architecture also delivering voice over IP services to new broadband users from the same platforms. Cirpack switches deliver consistent telephony services across all of these wireline technologies, sharing applications and resources with a wireless IMS.

Commenting on this development, Richard Brennan, ETSI TISPAN Vice-Chair, and TISPAN WG-2 Chair said: "TISPAN is designed to speed the migration of the PSTN/ISDN to a Broadband IP-based network, and is focusing on how to integrate today's wireline users into an IMS. This creates the critical mass of compatible technologies and deployments needed for a quick ROI on this massive migration strategy. I am pleased to see forward-looking vendors such as Cirpack developing the technologies which enable TISPAN-compliant networks to come to life. Cirpack's substantial presence in the European VoIP market, and thorough understanding of PSTN requirements, will enable effective deployments of these Next-Generation architectures.”

“Migrating the PSTN to a VoIP infrastructure will call for maintaining some of the 2 billion legacy phones for a while. A quick and successful migration requires voice switching equipment capable of handling both legacy and VoIP services in a comprehensive way,” explains Frederic Potter, Cirpack’s CTO & Senior VP. “Cirpack switches have been simultaneously supporting TDM and VoIP users for several years. We are now adding support for protocols and mechanisms defined by the TISPAN working groups in order to help operators design massive migration strategies using standard architectures and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment.”
