LONDON -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced the results of extensive testing verified by BT Exact, BT's technology and IT operations division, confirming the advanced high availability features of the T640 routing platform. The T-series is the industry's most proven core platform and delivers unmatched high availability, reliability and intelligent services at multi-terabit scale. Shipping since April 2002, the T-series has been deployed by more than 60 customers in production networks worldwide.

'Service providers and vendors rely on our testing to independently verify critical features, such as performance and high availability, under real-world conditions,' said Tony Dann, head of IP test and evaluation at BT Exact. 'This is our second T640 test and after initially confirming the T640's impressive overall performance capabilities, we have now been able to validate its high availability features. In this round of high availability features testing, the results confirm the Juniper Networks T640 performed admirably in each major component.'

Availability is expressed as a measurement of a device, system, or service's readiness to perform under duress according to predefined performance conditions and criteria. Juniper Networks solutions are designed to achieve optimal reliability and availability, enabling service providers to deliver an assured experience to their customers and support business critical applications as a foundation for Infranets. An Infranet is a network that combines the ubiquitous connectivity of the Internet with the assured performance and security of a private network.

The testing highlights three major components of high availability functionality; control plane resiliency, forwarding plane failovers and in-service software upgrades. The tests validated that the T640 was capable of this functionality and would continue packet forwarding during these events with both a large number of peers and a large number of routes configured. One of the main features of the T640 that provides the capability to achieve non-stop forwarding is its rich support for the graceful restart protocol extensions. 'As service providers and their customers deploy mission critical applications over IP, high availability has become a mandatory requirement when evaluating routing platforms,' said Karen Livoli, senior portfolio marketing manager, Juniper Networks. 'Our Infranet-ready T-series enables service providers to deliver an assured experience over a highly virtual network. The T-series with JUNOS software has set the industry benchmark for a highly available, intelligent and secure core network infrastructure.'
