BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- Avaya Inc., (NYSE: AV) a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, today announced that for the third quarter of 2005 it has maintained global market leadership in Enterprise Telephony according to Dell 'Oro Group's IP Telephony Enterprise Report, 3Q 05. This measurement includes both Internet Protocol (IP) telephony and traditional telephony revenues.

The report places Avaya as the leader position in Enterprise Telephony, with 19 percent of the market in the third quarter, two points ahead of the nearest competitor.

"Avaya has maintained leadership in this market measurement by Dell 'Oro for the past four quarters," said Michael C. Thurk, Avaya senior vice president and president, Global Communications Solutions. "As customers continue to migrate to IP telephony in order to take advantage of the business process benefits that intelligent communications applications can offer, we remain committed to delivering innovative solutions that can help companies harness the full communications power of new technologies."

For example, the Boston Red Sox implemented Avaya IP telephony solutions to link its home base at Fenway Park with spring training grounds in Florida, and upgraded customer service facilities to help fans reach the ticket office more quickly. According to Steve Conley, IT director for the Boston Red Sox, "Using Avaya IP softphones for our scouts and team staff enables single-number reachability and helps the organization stay connected throughout the season, at home and on the road. We've seen significant cost reductions, and the improvements in our contact center have helped fans obtain tickets more easily and efficiently, creating higher customer satisfaction in the most important segment of the Boston Red Sox family."

For its fourth fiscal quarter, ended on September 30, Avaya reported that product sales rose 11.5 percent over the previous quarter.
