AlcaLu Unveils 7705

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today extended its IPleadership with the introduction of the Alcatel-Lucent 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR), afeature-rich routing solution that provides cost and service efficiency for mobile cell and hubaggregation points, helping mobile operators dramatically reduce the cost of transporting voiceand data traffic from their wireless networks. The Alcatel-Lucent 7705 SAR provides industryleadingIP/MPLS and pseudowire capabilities in an aggregation platform, which is primarilytargeted at the transport needs of the evolving mobile radio access network (RAN). The newrouter is part of Alcatel-Lucent’s Mobile Evolution Transport Architecture (META), alsoannounced today, the industry’s most comprehensive vision for the evolution of mobile networksfrom TDM to all-IP.

With more than 2 million base stations deployed worldwide*1, anticipated rapid growth in use ofhigh-bandwidth mobile broadband services and widespread use of T1/E1 leased circuits forbackhauling voice and data traffic to switching centers, any mobile network evolution has toconsider the ongoing support of existing RAN equipment as well as the next-generation, all-IPsolutions. The market opportunity for the 7705 SAR is to bridge the technology and bandwidthdivides between today’s 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks and the promise of tomorrow’s 4G/all-IPsolutions.
