BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT - News) and 8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGHT - News) today announced that 8x8 has signed an agreement to use Level 3's (3)VoIP Enhanced(SM) Local service to enhance its residential VoIP offerings in more than 50 U.S. markets.

8x8, a broadband VoIP and video communications service provider, serves residential customers through a suite of offerings under the Packet8 brand. For residential broadband subscribers, the Packet8 service offers a cost effective and feature-rich alternative to traditional telephone service. Subscribers can use the service via an easy to set up telephone adaptor to enable use of their existing analog telephones, as well as broadband videophones from 8x8.

"This agreement with Level 3 enables us to provide our residential customers with emergency 911(E911) service, a critical capability that consumers expect to have with any local phone service," said Dr. Barry Andrews, president of 8x8. "In addition to E911 service, Level 3 is the only wholesale provider that has the experience, VoIP building blocks and IP network coverage to enable us to offer our enhanced residential services in markets that reach more than 65 percent of the U.S. population."

"With 8x8's Freedom Unlimited plan, users can make unlimited calls to any U.S. or Canadian phone number as well as 911 emergency calls for only $22.95 per month, inclusive of fees to cover the 911 services," added Dr. Andrews. "In addition, 8x8 offers subscribers useful telephone features such as voice mail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way conference calling and more at no additional charge."

"We're quite pleased that 8x8 has chosen to use our (3)VoIP Enhanced Local service to enhance the residential VoIP offerings the company provides across the United States," said Donna Lachance, senior vice president of Consumer Voice Services for Level 3. "8x8 has a rich heritage that began in 1990 when the company initiated development of advanced video chips. Today, 8x8 enjoys the enviable position of being one of the world's most innovative and market savvy providers of videophone and internet telephony services to residential and business customers."
