PLANO, Texas -- GENBAND Inc., a leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure products enabling converged services, announced today the company's G6(R) Universal Media Gateway has been deployed for cable telephony services in the province of Zeeland by DELTA NV, a leading Dutch Cable Operator. Imtech Telecom provided sales and integration of the G6 where it is providing full residential telecommunication service over an existing cable network through a EuroDOCSIS 2.0, PacketCable, and MGCP architecture.

"We have been very pleased with the G6 deployment and its seamless interoperability with the Nortel DMS-100 and cable infrastructure," said Jan Dees, manager of cable networks at DELTA NV. "Voice quality and reliability is excellent, and as a result, we are able to bundle an integrated voice, video, and data service offering that immediately provides us differentiation and establishes a platform for future enhanced softswitched-based service."

GENBAND's G6 is used to provide derived voice via a redundant STM-1 connection to a Nortel DMS-100 telephony-switch. The G6 connects to the HFC-network through a CMTS from BigBand (Cuda 12000). The G6 converts legacy voice to Voice Over IP with the Nortel DMS-100 providing Class 5 features. The packet voice is passed over the HFC network to the subscriber where an EMTA from Scientific Atlanta (Webstar 2203) provides the POTS gates.

"GENBAND is pleased to be working closely with DELTA NV for the delivery of their cable voice services," said Joe Parola, vice president of cable sales at GENBAND. "With our close partner Imtech, we have been able to provide a reliable VoIP solution that is both cost effective for DELTA NV and lays the foundation for further converged service differentiation. We look forward to working with DELTA NV to ensure that they maximize their revenue per users in the most economical fashion possible."
