CORNING, N.Y. -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW - News), a world-leading supplier of optical fiber, unveiled today the latest addition to its optical fiber portfolio, a 10 Gb/s-capable multimode fiber for high-speed, high-density applications. Corning® InfiniCor® SXi fiber offers superior bandwidth for short-reach interconnect applications while achieving lower overall systems cost.InfiniCor SXi fiber is designed to provide an upgrade path to conquer bandwidth-intensive applications where data converges for routing, switching and storage. It is a 50-micron multimode fiber enabling 10 Gb/s transmission over 150 meters in the 850 nanometer (nm) wavelength window, and is designed for use with low-cost, 850 nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) to enable a cost-effective, high-bandwidth solution."Corning believes the introduction of InfiniCor SXi optical fiber is well-timed with the current market conditions," said Bob Brown, general manager and senior vice president, Corning Optical Fiber. "Many analysts predict metropolitan networks will be among the first to emerge from the current industry malaise. As this begins, central offices and data centers will be required to manage increasing volumes of digital information. With InfiniCor SXi optical fiber at the foundation of high-speed, parallel interconnect infrastructures, our customers will realize their bandwidth requirements in the most cost-effective way possible."Corning Inc.
