NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced the industry's first high-density processing solution that enables networking equipment to terminate both data and signaling system 7(SS7) traffic using the high-level data link control (HDLC) protocol. The HDLC/SS7 signaling processor extends Mindspeed's line of multi-channel synchronous communications controller (MUSYCC(TM)) products while complementing its family of VoIP processors.

"Mindspeed continues to innovate at the data link layer and enable telecom equipment manufacturers to design high-density carrier class equipment," said Sankar Ramachandran, senior product line manager at Mindspeed. "Increasing traffic volume combined with new intelligent service offerings are driving SS7 usage. We've created a SS7 processor and added HDLC channel processing along with hardware assistance for message transfer protocol routing and management. The result is a comprehensive solution in a small footprint that offloads the host processor while significantly simplifying design cycles and accelerating time to market."

Mindspeed's MUSYCC M28480/81 HDLC/SS7 processors format and de-format 512 bi-directional HDLC/SS7 channels, and also provide a high-performance platform for running message transfer protocol (MTP)1 and 2 in hardware.
