SAN JOSE, Calif. -- CloudShield Technologies, Inc. today introduced a new packet processing technology that allows network applications to run at optical speed for the first time. Founded in early 2000, CloudShield has been developing its technology for more than a year and working closely with customers to define features for its first packet processor product. The company expects general product availability in the fourth quarter of this year. To date, no other company or product has demonstrated the ability to inspect, manage and process 100% of all network traffic at OC-48 speed. Until now, network providers have been unable to deliver new Internet Protocol services over fiber without significantly degrading the performance of their networks. By combining the latest in new network processing chip technologies, network co-processors, intelligent micro-code, and a proprietary patent-pending architecture and design, CloudShield has created a 10 gigabit per second, integrated hardware and software system that runs applications without degrading network performance. This technology breakthrough has enabled CloudShield to pioneer a new category of optical networking equipment called Packet Processors. "CloudShield's technology has important implications for telecommunications carriers and network hosting providers who have the opportunity to take advantage of recent innovations in optical networking," said Muayyad Al-Chalabi, director of switching and routing for RHK, a leading market research and consulting firm specializing in advanced technologies for the public telecommunications network. "Transport revenues have declined along with the price of bandwidth and these companies are looking for a flexible, scalable way to offer new network services. Because CloudShield's packet processor platform is dedicated solely to running applications at OC-48 speed, it presents an alternative to deploying 'combo boxes' or 'point solutions' for carriers and hosting providers."
