RESTON, Va. and PETACH-TIKVA, Israel -- Civcom Inc., a pioneer in the development and manufacturing of tunable transponders and solid-state optical switches, announced today the launch of the first Tunable Transponder with an integrated Optical Dispersion Compensator (ODC).

The FLTT-ULH is the world’s first widely tunable 10 Gbps 300-pin MSA compliant transponder with an integrated ODC. The transponder with its integrated ODC, yields over +/-2500ps/nm dispersion tolerance and exhibits a mild OSNR penalty for distances of 135km+ at transmission rates of 9.953 - 12.5 Gbps.

Glassic™, which is based on Civcom’s unique SFS™ (Solid Free Space) technology, covers the full C or L-band windows with narrow channel spacing (25GHz or higher) and exhibits less than 2 dB insertion loss. The low cost Glassic™ ODC is fully tunable, and is characterized by low power consumption.

Prof. David Mendlovic, Civcom’s CEO says:” The capability of integrating an ODC module within a standard 300-pin MSA transponder, is a trigger for the next revolution with respect to the transponder’s reach. Using an all-optical approach for tackling dispersion limitation provides the best added-value to our customers”.

The FLTT-ULH transponder with integrated ODC, which is already available for sampling, will be in volume production during 1Q’05.
