China Railcom Deploys Riverstone

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Metropolitan area networking pioneer Riverstone Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: RSTN) today announced that Shanxi Railcom, a subsidiary of China Railcom, is expanding its service delivery capabilities with three Riverstone-enabled metropolitan networks in Taiyuan, Datong and Linfen, Shanxi province's largest cities. Over the next year, Shanxi Railcom plans to expand the network to include 10 additional cities. Riverstone's RS 8600 and RS 3000 routers enable Shanxi Railcom to groom raw bandwidth in China Railcom's nationwide CRNet backbone and deliver advanced virtual private network (VPN), voice and video services to businesses and residents throughout the three cities. Shanxi Railcom is leveraging Riverstone's advanced ATM circuit extension technology in these metropolitan networks to connect its ATM access network with its fiber-rich CRNet backbone. This cost-effective method for leveraging infrastructure assets provides Shanxi Railcom with the tools to deliver revenue-generating services today and the scalability to increase future network capacity as customer demand increases.
