Charter Picks Synacor for Broadband Content

Synacor has signed up its biggest cable operator yet for its broadband content-bundling service. Synacor, which develops Web portals that enable ISPs to offer free and subscription services on their platforms, unveiled Charter Communications as a major client Wednesday. Synacor has helped North America's third largest MSO revamp its Web portal so that Charter cable modem subscribers can now access free news, sports and entertainment content, as well as two new subscription services. The two new premium offerings are High-Speed Plus, a movie, news and game download service, and Charter Music, a music download service. Both pay services cost $7.99 a month. Synacor, which previously signed up Adelphia Communications, Earthlink and Cincinnati Bell as broadband customers, boasts that it now makes content available to more than 12 million broadband subscribers. For its bundles, it aggregates content and other features from more than 30 service providers.
