Re: CABLE & 5G WIRELESSIt's OK, here in America everyone has the right to be wrong. :)
Cable guys are indeed aware of 5G's potential as an opportunity and/or threat and they're exploring it on a few fronts. While a full-blown 5G mobile broadband service could emerge, the intial focus is on using 5G for last-mile transport and providing fiber backhaul of 5G traffic.
But cable engineers are concerned about 5G propagation issues -- it doesn't do well going into buildings. Perhaps that's why Balan Nair, Liberty Global's CTO, when asked about using 5G for cable's last-mile transport, told the Light Reading audience: "It's bullshit." He said cable will make its money through fiber backhaul.
Can anyone shed some light on how big an issue 5G propagation is??
Maybe. But probably not the usage caps and price. Can't really talk about one without the others.
