MINNEAPOLIS -- Recent independent surveys reveal that fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gear maker Optical Solutions Inc. has the greatest percentage of FTTH equipment deployments in the nation today, and that more than half of the telecommunications industry’s independent carriers favor Optical Solutions over other FTTH vendors.

In an Oct. 4 “U.S. Optical Fiber Communities” update issued by the FTTH Council, TIA and FOCUS, Optical Solutions’ equipment was deployed in 60 percent of the FTTH communities cited (exclusive of Verizon communities). The list of FTTH communities can be viewed at: http://www.tiaonline.org/media/press_releases/uploads/Communitieslist-Sept05.pdf.

Separately, in a Sept. 19 Network Technology report issued by Baird Equity Research, 51 percent of the 53 independent operating carriers (IOCs) and competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) surveyed indicated they were most likely to purchase FTTX equipment from Optical Solutions than any of the other eight FTTX vendors noted.

“We believe Optical Solutions is viewed so favorably among independent carriers because they offer a more proven next-generation GPON solution versus competitors; their customer service is very responsive; and they specialize in this market segment,” said Baird Analyst Ken Muth.
