Optical transceiver module for the Optical Network Unit (ONU) of 622-Mbit/s passive optical network (PON) system

HERNDON, Va. -- NEC Corporation (Nasdaq: NIPNY - news; FTSE: 6707q.1) (TSE: 6701) announced today that it has introduced Optical Transceiver Module for the Optical Network Unit (ONU) of 622Mbps Passive Optical Network (PON) systems and started sample shipment. The possible users of the new product will be manufacturers of access system products all over the world. The new product, optical transceiver module will be built in the ONU subscribers' terminals. It transmits 1.3 micron m wavelength burst optical signals and receives 1.5 micron m continuous optical signals. NEC's advanced optical transmission technologies such as WDM(1260- 1360nm/1480-1580nm), PLC and passive alignment technologies allow the module realizing single-mode optical fiber duplex transmission and is also integrated in a small package. It is also appropriate for the volume production. The module is applicable for the PON system with FSAN (Full Service Access Networks :ITU-T*7)G983.1) specifications.NEC Corp.
