LIVERMORE, Calif. -- Alloptic, Inc., a pioneer in the development and deployment of passive optical networks (PONs), today announced that CSS Communications, an integrated communications provider (ICP), is deploying its equipment as part of a fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network capable of delivering high-speed data, voice and video services to businesses and residents of the city of Bellingham, Washington.

CSS Communications, a licensee providing services over the dark fiber networks of Public Utility District No. 1 of Whatcom County and the Port of Bellingham, reports that use of Alloptic's passive network components significantly reduces overall operating expenses over active networks, and delivers greater bandwidth at a lower cost per megabyte than alternative solutions. The company is installing Alloptic edgeGEAR(TM) equipment in central office (CO) facilities and Alloptic bizGEAR(TM) and homeGEAR(TM) optical network units (ONUs) at the customer premises to deliver high-speed data, Internet, private line, and T1 and traditional voice services to the community.

"Adding Alloptic's PON equipment to our mix of network technology offerings is a definite plus, fitting in ideally with our strategy to give customers the best of all technologies for their particular applications," said Ray Poorman, chief technology officer of CSS Communications. "This is the second deployment we've done with Alloptic, and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. We are delivering the bandwidth and service flexibility our customers want, while reducing maintenance costs and achieving longer reach deployments."
