MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 7, 2013 – Big Switch Networks today announced a joint solution with F5 to simplify how private cloud data center networks are built and orchestrated, enabling customers to deploy the rich network services they expect from traditional networks in an automated fashion consistent with the provisioning speeds of virtual workloads. The solution leverages the F5 BIG-IQ™ Cloud REST API to integrate the Big Virtual Switch network virtualization application, BIG-IP® Application Delivery Networking (ADN) services and OpenStack into a flexible and unified cloud orchestration framework. Big Virtual Switch dynamically provisions virtual network segments, or slices of the network, for applications and workloads and enables automation. Combining BIG-IP application delivery resources with network segments automatically delivers scalable and highly available applications from a virtual infrastructure instantly. Network administrators no longer have to manually define and deploy compute resources and network connections individually. In traditional data center architectures, automation stops at the threshold to the network, making the network a major impediment to business agility and service velocity. Network virtualization can speed the response to application requests and simplify application delivery in a virtual data center, but the system requires complex coordination of network infrastructure and application resources. To avoid the manual planning and configuration processes that have historically been associated with application rollouts and scale out projects, virtual networks can be programmed and automatically connected to server resources serviced by F5 solutions using Big Virtual Switch.Big Switch Networks
