WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate late yesterday confirmed Jonathan Adelstein as a member of the Federal Communications Commission, filling a long-standing vacancy. The following statement may be attributed to Herschel Abbott, BellSouth vice president governmental affairs: "We look forward to working with Mr. Adelstein and a now full commission on vital issues like regulatory parity and fair pricing that are facing the competitive telecommunications industry. "His many years of experience in telecommunications as a legislative assistant in the Congress, and especially his focus on rural issues, will be particularly valuable in his new job. BellSouth has more rural customers than any other local telephone company and they too should benefit from his special expertise." BellSouth Corp.
