BEIJING and SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASIA), a leading provider of telecom software solutions in China, today announced that Mr. Xingsheng Zhang, a twenty-year veteran in the Chinese telecommunications industry, has been named president and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2003. Mr. Zhang, 48, who was previously Chief Marketing Officer of Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd, will succeed James Ding. Mr. Ding, one of AsiaInfo's co-founders and the company's president and CEO since 1999, will replace Mr. Louis Lau as the Chairman of the Board, who will step down as Chairman but will remain on the Board of Directors. "As AsiaInfo develops, its requirements for its management team changes," said Mr. Lau. "The Board and I agreed that the company would benefit from a China-based Chairman who could focus greater attention on developing strong relationships with government and industry leaders and improving the company's business environment. Building on his past excellent work leading AsiaInfo, James Ding will be able to more effectively devote himself to these important issues as Chairman of the Board." "I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead AsiaInfo, which is today a leader in China's telecom industry." said Mr. Zhang. "It is, of course, with some sadness that I leave Ericsson, where I have worked for more than a decade. While current market conditions are challenging, I am confident that working with AsiaInfo's strong management team and building on the company's leading market position, we can develop the right strategy to take AsiaInfo to new levels of success."
