Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) Tuesday revealed Indianapolis as its fourth -- and likely final -- fixed wireless 5G city that will go live with "Home Internet" later this year.

Indianapolis will join Houston, Los Angeles and Sacramento as the first few gigabit-class residential next-gen broadband markets using the operator's 5GTF specification. The operator will also bundle Apple TV boxes and the YouTube TV service with its 5G offerings in those markets. Verizon execs have said they expect to launch four fixed 5G markets by the end of 2018. At least 50 residential markets are expected to follow in 2019. Verizon Reveals Third 5G City, as Revenue Climbs 5.4% in Q2.)

Meanwhile, as Light Reading reported in July, Verizon is expected to launch mobile 5G in "early" 2019, using the 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) standard. This will require a software upgrade to its existing 28GHz 5G fixed infrastructure. (See Verizon Confirms Mobile 5G in 'Early' 2019.)
