VANCOUVER -- 360networks inc. today announced it is acquiring more than 18,000 kilometers (11,000 miles) of fiber optic infrastructure from Call-Net Enterprises Inc. on routes connecting major cities in the United States and Canada. 360networks will pay a total of US $162.5 million (CDN $242 million) for dark fiber connecting the following cities: Boston - New York; Buffalo - Albany - New York; New York - Washington - Atlanta; Atlanta - Jacksonville - Miami; Atlanta - Houston - Dallas; Seattle - Detroit (via Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Minneapolis and Chicago); Calgary - Edmonton - Toronto; Toronto - Ottawa - Montreal - Quebec City - Rimouski.

"These agreements represent a unique opportunity to acquire an existing network at an attractive price," said Ron Stevenson, vice-chairman of 360networks. "These network acquisitions enable us to capitalize on the strong, near-term demand we see in the marketplace."
