June 12, 2002
ATLANTA and SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Continuing its expansion in the wireless Internet arena -- this time, on the burgeoning public Wi-Fi access front -- EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK) today announced the launch of EarthLink Wireless High Speed powered by Boingo Wireless. The award-winning ISP's latest "EarthLink Everywhere" service gives on-the-go consumers and business travelers high-speed Internet access through hundreds of public and private Wi-Fi networks or "hot spots" nationwide. Through its relationship with Boingo Wireless, Inc., EarthLink will now offer its subscribers the ability to access hundreds of 802.11b-enabled wireless LANs (local area networks) in hotels, airports, cafes and other public and private areas nationwide. Boingo Wireless, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Sky Dayton, who is also the founder and chairman of EarthLink. "EarthLink Wireless High Speed lets mobile Internet users take the convenience of a high-speed Internet connection on the road. It's increasingly found in places like hotels, airports and cafes where people naturally congregate or spend the precious little time they have catching up on email or connecting to the Internet," says Mike Lunsford, executive vice president of EarthLink's Everywhere and Customer Experience divisions.
