Teralux Unveils External Cavity Laser

Optical component supplier Teralux emerges from stealth mode with the launch of its MACSL (Mode Adaptive Cavity Stabilized Laser) device

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Teralux Corporation, founded February 2003, announces its emergence from stealth mode as a supplier of active optical components for a broad range of applications. The first product line is addressing the external cavity laser space, with its MACSLTM (Mode Adaptive Cavity Stabilized Laser) device, achieved by means of TeraLux’s MILCTM (Monolithic Integrated Light Circuit) technology. The MACSL TM device, demonstrated at a data rate of up to 11Gbps, produces an unmodulated laser linewidth of 5 picometers, and a modulated linewidth of 10-20 picometers, depending on the data rate. Mode hopping is eliminated in this technology. The device can be inexpensively manufactured using standard SiOB technology, and facilitates integration with optics and electronics, producing hybrid circuits. The product line will eventually include tunable and un-cooled lasers.

Stefan Wurster, CEO of Teralux, stated: “High-ROI applications of our device include communications at all data rates, secure communications, and bio-medical sensors in the near-term. Further down the road, there will be opportunity in 3D surface analysis, interferometry, LIDAR, test and measurement equipment, and spectroscopy, e.g. Raman probes, combustion diagnostics, and identification of bio-chemical agents for homeland security.”
