PETALUMA, Calif. -- Turin Networks, a global provider of multiservice optical transport products for carrier, wireless and private networks, announced today that telx, the premier operator of telecom "meet-me" network interconnection facilities, has deployed Turin's Traverse® 2000 Multiservice Transport Switch at One Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles. The Traverse 2000 is a key component in the telx Brilliant Platform(SM), a networking system offering carriers a range of managed network interconnections, such as SONET-to-SDH conversion and high-capacity Ethernet over SONET/SDH.

The Brilliant Platform has successfully interconnected multiple major North American, European, and Latin American carriers that maintain network terminations at telx's New York City and Atlanta meet-me rooms. With the expansion of the platform into LA, telx's customers can now also interconnect directly with the Asian and Pacific Rim carriers among One Wilshire's 300-strong carrier network community. The Traverse switch adds a layer of intelligence to the Brilliant Platform, converting optical circuits between SDH and SONET, then demultiplexing and grooming the signals into DS1, DS3, and E1 circuits for connection to other carriers. The Traverse-based platform also provides a range of high-capacity point-to-point and multi-point Ethernet services.

"The Traverse switch brings our carrier customers a service that we believe is unique to telx; the ability to interconnect global carriers using SONET, SDH and Ethernet with unparalleled efficiency and without having to deploy their own equipment at our facility," said Hunter Newby, Chief Strategy Officer for telx.

"Our partnership with telx has been a strong validation of the versatility and reliability of our Traverse platform with top carrier customers," said Henry Wasik, CEO of Turin Networks. "We're excited that Turin Networks has played a key role in enabling telx to expand its service offerings and continue attracting leading global carriers."
