CALABASAS, Calif. -- Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, today announced that SnowSports Interactive, Australia's leading ski and snowboard technology company, has selected Strix's Access/One(R) Network Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and Indoor Wireless Systems (IWS) to provide the first Australian ski-resort-wide wireless network at Mt Buller Alpine Ski Resort, Australia's premier snow destination. SnowSports Interactive will deploy its whispar(TM) wireless system, which is based entirely on Strix Access/One products, at Mt Buller to enhance the ski resort experience by providing multimedia Internet access to all visitors and skiers. Resort visitors using PDAs, Wi-Fi enabled phones, or laptops will be able to access the whispar wireless mesh network from anywhere in the 650-acre resort.

SnowSports Interactive, which develops high-tech solutions for the skiing and snowboarding industry, determined that Strix's multi-radio, multi-channel, multi-RF solution was the only wireless system that could withstand the harsh alpine environment at Mt Buller while providing coverage at locations around the mountain with restricted lines of sight. The solution will provide substantial coverage in the Mt Buller Village area and across the skiable terrain.

"SnowSports Interactive was looking for a wireless network that deploys easily and that could simultaneously run a broad range of applications without having any negative impact on existing services," said Steve Kenny, Managing Director of SnowSports Interactive. "Strix's OWS and IWS solutions were easy to deploy quickly, and we can upgrade the system ourselves seamlessly as Strix introduces new products and capabilities. Strix also provides superior throughput over multiple hops, which is essential in a ski-resort terrain where wiring nodes for backhaul is nearly impossible."

"By providing coverage in Mt Buller's village and ski slope areas, Strix's multi-radio mesh network proves again, in yet another new location, its scalability and high performance," said Nan Chen, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Strix Systems. "SnowSports Interactive is developing a unique and innovative solution for ski resorts with its whispar wireless system. We look forward to an on-going partnership with SnowSports Interactive as it continues to deploy whispar in resorts worldwide."
