Sprint to Service Southwest Airlines

Southwest inks three-year communications deal with Sprint for voice, data, and critical network backup

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Sprint (NYSE: FON - News, PCS - News) today announced a new three-year agreement to deliver a range of both voice and high-speed data services to Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV - News). Specific terms of the deal are not being disclosed. The new agreement includes voice services to connect Southwest Airlines' Reservation Centers with customers. Sprint also will deliver high-speed, frame relay data services to connect Southwest's corporate sites and to provide back-up connectivity to airports around the country. "Southwest Airlines went through an exhaustive process to select a communications provider that met its standards on many different dimensions -- from technical expertise and customer service to financial stability," said Tim Kelly, president, Sprint Business. "By providing a combination of primary and backup services, we believe we can help Southwest achieve the network diversity and reliability that is critical in the today's business environment.
